Published: June 14, 2019 I think this is one of my most disturbing recent finds… For context, today (in 2019) the amount of Lead (as detectable with an XRF instrument) that is considered unsafe in items made for use by children is 90 ppm Lead (or higher) in the surface paint, finish or coating or…
Tamara who do *you* follow on Facebook? When I am scrolling through Facebook, these are the posts I pay attention to – either because they make me laugh (and give me a break from my day), or I know that because the post/story/information is from them there will likely be something I want to read…

Background on my work testing Ikea products since 2009: Since I get so many *Ikea* questions (and since I have long-recommended Ikea as a great general-purpose go-to brand), I decided to purchase some new, current Ikea plates myself, and post their test results here on the blog. When tested with an XRF instrument this Defiant Lockset (sent to me by a reader in Canada) had the following readings: 1) Main part of handle: Lead (Pb): Non-Detect / Negative Arsenic (As): Non-Detect / Negative Cadmium (Cd): Non-Detect / Negative Mercury (Hg): Non-Detect / Negative Antimony (Sb): Non-Detect / Negative Barium (Ba): Non-Detect / Negative…
I just purchased the all white Corelle (Vitrelle Dinner Set) to replace my “Vintage” with lead in the paint. I thought I saw where you wrote that the mugs in the new all white sets still contain lead. But now I can’t find that post. Can you confirm that I need to discard the new Corelle mugs also? Thank you!
We’ve used Corelle and Pyrex products for decades and I have yet to find an article that uses paint on a surface, which is what the regulations on lead apply to.
They specifically do not apply to decorative images that become part of the material, as in fired ceramics or glass… even plastics where the decoration is within the material… and not a paint film dried onto the surface.
