Things From Canada – Defiant Doorknob Lock & Handle Set, Naples Collection: Lead Free in all accessible components.

When tested with an XRF instrument this Defiant Lockset (sent to me by a reader in Canada) had the following readings:

1) Main part of handle:

  1. Lead (Pb): Non-Detect / Negative
  2. Arsenic (As): Non-Detect / Negative
  3. Cadmium (Cd): Non-Detect / Negative
  4. Mercury (Hg): Non-Detect / Negative
  5. Antimony (Sb): Non-Detect / Negative
  6. Barium (Ba): Non-Detect / Negative
  7. Chromium (Cr): Non-Detect / Negative
  8. Selenium (Se): Non-Detect / Negative
  9. Zinc (Zn): 288,300 +/- 2,400 ppm

2) Brass interior components:

  1. Lead (Pb): Non-Detect / Negative
  2. Arsenic (As): Non-Detect / Negative
  3. Cadmium (Cd): Non-Detect / Negative
  4. Mercury (Hg): Non-Detect / Negative
  5. Antimony (Sb): Non-Detect / Negative
  6. Barium (Ba): Non-Detect / Negative
  7. Chromium (Cr): 4,491 +/- 524 ppm
  8. Selenium (Se): Non-Detect / Negative
  9. Zinc (Zn): 302,400 +/- 3,600 ppm

3) Base of lock (part that affixes to door):

  1. Lead (Pb): Non-Detect / Negative
  2. Arsenic (As): Non-Detect / Negative
  3. Cadmium (Cd): Non-Detect / Negative
  4. Mercury (Hg): Non-Detect / Negative
  5. Antimony (Sb): Non-Detect / Negative
  6. Barium (Ba): Non-Detect / Negative
  7. Chromium (Cr): 36,000 +/- 2,000 ppm
  8. Selenium (Se): Non-Detect / Negative
  9. Copper (Cu): 764,800 +/- 113,000 ppm

4) Tongue of the lock (the part that goes in and out when you turn the handle):

  1. Lead (Pb): Non-Detect / Negative
  2. Arsenic (As): Non-Detect / Negative
  3. Cadmium (Cd): Non-Detect / Negative
  4. Mercury (Hg): Non-Detect / Negative
  5. Antimony (Sb): Non-Detect / Negative
  6. Barium (Ba): Non-Detect / Negative
  7. Chromium (Cr): Non-Detect / Negative
  8. Selenium (Se): Non-Detect / Negative
  9. Zinc (Zn): 390,000 +/- 3,400 ppm
